Thickened and discoloured nails may be caused by systemic disease, trauma or a fungal infection.
Whilst commonplace, they can cause embarrassment and affect confidence when wearing open-toe shoes. These nails can be difficult to cut at home and if left untreated can cause pain, difficulty wearing footwear and walking. In some cases, the pressure on the nail can cause an ulcer to form beneath the nail.

The most common cause of thickened and discoloured toenails is a fungal infection. If our Podiatrist suspects Fungal Nail they will offer you an ‘instant result’ fungal nail test. If the test is positive we will then discuss Fungal Nail Treatment with you.
