Functional foot orthoses are inserts that are put inside your shoes to influence and improve the function of your foot.
They may be prescribed for a variety of reasons. Orthotics alter pressure coming from the ground to the foot (ground reaction force) when you stand, walk or run. Whilst wearing orthoses, the forces are altered so that you can achieve better foot function and reduce any excessive forces that lead to injury and pain. Your personalised prescription can help to correct the alignment of your feet and legs and/or redistribute pressure to relieve painful areas on your foot. Proper alignment is important for balancing and distributing your body weight more evenly, thereby reducing excessive pressure and stress on your feet, ankles, knees, hips and back.
